Über das Projekt

The P2GreeN project is developing, testing and adapting the use of human sanitary waste to produce safe, bio-based fertilizer for agriculture. A consortium of 32 European partners has set itself the goal of promoting a paradigm shift from a linearly organized resource and nutrient system within the agricultural and food supply chain to a circular material flow system between urban and rural areas, thus restoring the coupling of the water-agricultural and food system through a holistic approach of symbiotic resource management according to the 3R principle “Reduce, Reuse, Recover”.
agrathaer is coordinating the project together with the Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops.

To achieve the set goal, new circular governance solutions for the transition from farm to fork will be developed to stop and eliminate N&P pollution. To this end, blue urban and green rural infrastructure will be linked, with a focus on the circular nutrient flows of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P).
The P2GreeN pilot regions extend from the North German Plateau in Germany to the Axarquia region in southern Spain. The multiplication of the effects is being tested in the four follower regions of Hungary, Italy, France and Greece.
